My Story, My Mission
I have been a Medical Social Worker for more than 25 years.
My experience spans the continuum of care from Nursing Home, Dementia Care, Rehabilitation, to Homecare and Hospice.
I live on a small family farm in the Mid-Coast. I enjoy all animals’ companionship, gardening, and working with fleece and wool. I was lucky enough to grow up with my Grammy living close by and have always enjoyed the company and wisdom of older people.
I believe in the importance of independence, and making every day the best it can be. I am a strong advocate with an abundance of experience, knowledge, energy, and compassion.
My mission is to use my experience and knowledge to guide seniors and their families through a complex healthcare system, understanding their rights and options. Always focusing on, “What is most important, at each stage of your journey?”
Recently my husband had an accident, I stayed at the hospital with him as long as they permitted. I was constantly asking questions, conferring with the surgeon, nurses and therapist. There were many times I intervened and advocated for what I thought were better options. I expressed concerns over infection control, clarified amount and duration of medication, and questioned inconsistencies from therapy. I learned firsthand how important it was to understand the system, medical terminology, what questions to ask, and setting expectations for my husband to have a smooth transition to home. I kept thinking how difficult it must be for people who are not familiar with the system. We were lucky that my knowledge, experience, and confidence to advocate for my husband improved his rehabilitation. I want to do the same for your family.
Respectfully,
